We are girls who become like family through our shared passion for music. Each member auditioned by our choirmaster, Andre van der Merwe, and attends Stellenberg High School. Our repertoire consists mainly of Gospel, Acapella, Classical, Folk/Ethnic, and Sacred music. We compete in various national and international competitions and strive to share beautiful music with The world while being cultural ambassadors for our country. Achievements: - Overall winners of The "ATKV Nasionale Applous-kompetisie" for 12 times (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011). - In 2002 They won The category for Women's Choirs at The Llangollen International Eisteddfod in Wales. - In 2004, we were awarded The highest percentage for any choir at The World Choir Olympics. - In 2006 we won The much acclaimed Choir of The World trophy in Llangollen Wales. ...    less

In 2005 The local Council of The borough of North Down conferred The status of Borough Ambassador on Bangor Ladies Choir. This is The first conferment ever to an external Organisation outside of The Council Membership and The Choir were privileged and proud to accept this unique position. The choir has gained international renown for gorgeous resonant tone, impeccable technique and for The artistry and sincerity of performance. Tours have included Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Wales, England and Italy, in addition to touring extensively in The USA and Canada. From its beginning it has been affiliated with ZAMEK Culture Centre. Experienced and respected pedagogues-musicians look after The musical development of The girls and artistic program. The Choir is conducted and creatively inspired by its Artistic Director and Conductor Alicja Szeluga, an educator and choral music aficionado. The Vocal Coach Marzena Michałowska, and accompanying pianist Czesław Łynsza, as well as percussionist Beata Polak complete The musical team. The SKOWRONKI Girls Choir also has programs for younger groups. The ensemble is consists of 140 girls aged between 6 and 22. The singers of The choir are secondary school students as well as students from universities of Poznań. The Peninsula Girls Chorus strives toward a high level of musicianship paired with sensitive interpretations of music from a variety of genres. In our quest to become global citizens of The 21st century, The PGC performs both locally and abroad. We provide a valuable resource to our local community through assorted outreach performances and we participate in prestigious domestic and international music festivals. In addition to musical benefits, The PGC offers opportunities for The development of leadership skills, higher-order thinking, discipline and self-esteem.
