Being part of the choir requires two very important elements - dedication and commitment - and it is evident that, over the years, these have remained at the core of the choir, demonstrating the loyalty of the choir members not only to each other but to keeping the talent of choral singing alive and well! Excellent performances just don't happen and a lot of hard work and effort is put in at every rehearsal, however, the camaraderie, enjoyed by everyone, is also a very special part of being a Choir Member.
In 2005 the local Council of the borough of North Down conferred the status of Borough Ambassador on Bangor Ladies Choir. This is the first conferment ever to an external Organisation outside of the Council Membership and the Choir were privileged and proud to accept this unique position. As Ambassadors the Choir represent the Borough of North Down on all of their travels, and, whether it be Province wide or worldwide, they carry out their duties with pride.
Over the last number of years Bangor Ladies Choir has performed in various United Kingdom locations, one of the most memorable experiences being at York Minster; In Europe the Choir sang in the City Cathedrals of Antwerp and Brussels, and it was in this City that they also sang in the European Parliament, and in 2006, the Choir's 30th Anniversary, sang in the European Parliament's sister building in Strasbourg.
On another occasion they proudly represented Bangor in Concert performances in their twin town of Bregenz, Austria, and in 2003 in the USA, where they appeared with the Virginia Beach Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, a male voice Choir from Japan and a Chamber Choir from Norway, in a performance of Beethoven's Choral 9th Symphony, as well as giving several personal concerts. Following this visit the choir were privileged to be awarded the Sister Cities International Award for Best Overall Programme and this trophy adds sparkle to past achievements.
