Our collective history began in 1936 when Vladislav Sokolov (who was a a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory) created a children's choir, which is almost 70 years was a model of Russian Choral art throughout the Soviet Union and in many foreign countries ...  moreOur collective history began in 1936 when Vladislav Sokolov (who was a a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory) created a children's choir, which is almost 70 years was a model of Russian Choral art throughout the Soviet Union and in many foreign countries . 2008 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Professor Sokolov, in the anniversary Concert attended choir, consisting of pupils of children's choir. After the speech the former pupils of children's choir - people of different professions and ages , realized that they all share a love of music and Choral singing , decided not to leave, and formed a new team . Our first CD-drive, consisting of 19 works of Russian and foreign classics, Russian folk songs, songs by modern composers, was recorded in 2013. Our choir took part in competitions and festivals in Russia, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Ireland, Belgium where repeatedly became the winner.  less

We use professionally made voice tracks to help learn our parts with precision, thus allowing us to put aside our sheet music and really enjoy the magic of hearing all the harmonies merged into the ringing chords of the Barbershop style! It’s the blend of these unique vocal parts that creates the space for an exciting ensemble. Barbershop singing style is unaccompanied, and creates four-part a cappella harmony. Our purpose is “to sing, in harmony, a variety of music for the enjoyment of the members as well as to give public and private performances for the listening pleasure of othe...  moreThe Richmond Singers is a 55 voice women’s choir which began performing in 1971. Our purpose is “to sing, in harmony, a variety of music for the enjoyment of the members as well as to give public and private performances for the listening pleasure of others”. During our musical season (September – June), the choir practices on Monday evenings from 7 – 9:30 PM at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Richmond. In addition to our weekly practices we usually plan one or two workshops with a Choral clinician, as well as evenings with guest directors. We have two major performances per year, a Family Christmas Concert in December and a Spring Concert in May. We are very involved with our community and, by giving benefit Concerts, help to raise funds for other organizations such as the Richmond Hospice Society, Canadian Cancer Foundation and Tim Horton’s Kids Camps. It's of course a wink to my favorite musical movie - I must have watched it at least a dozen times. It keeps inspiring my love for singing. We mostly sing musical songs, but not exclusively. We are dedicated to making this a great amateur choir. But, as Mary Poppins sang: 'In every job that must be done / there is an element of fun / You find the fun / and SNAP the job's a game'
