Our purpose is “to sing, in harmony, a variety of music for the enjoyment of the members as well as to give public and private performances for the listening pleasure of others”. During our musical season (September – June), the choir practices on Monday evenings from 7 – 9:30 PM at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Richmond. In addition to our weekly practices we usually plan one or two workshops with a choral clinician, as well as evenings with guest directors.
We have two major performances per year, a Family Christmas Concert in December and a Spring Concert in May. We are very involved with our community and, by giving benefit concerts, help to raise funds for other organizations such as the Richmond Hospice Society, Canadian Cancer Foundation and Tim Horton’s Kids Camps. As a group member of the Richmond Community Arts Council, the Richmond Singers has established a legacy that attests to a vested interest in the arts in Richmond and has an exemplary track record in community service.
We were very fortunate to be invited to represent BC at the July 1, 2003 “UNISONG” celebrations in Ottawa. The choir performed five concerts which featured singing at the National Arts Center with the National Symphony Orchestra directed by the world renowned Pinchas Zukerman. In 2009, the Richmond Singers were proud to represent BC at Festival 500 in St John’s, Newfoundland. Festival 500 has a reputation of being one of the finest music festivals in the world. It was fun to be a part of this festival. less
