Members of the Wesleyan Chorale also perform in the Wesleyan Singers, an open-enrollment ensemble that performs a variety of music while developing vocal technique and musicianship skills.

The text for this work is a secular meditation on the rocks and the waves written by the composer during a weekend stay there in 1978. The music was completed in January 2000 and received a reading by the Gregg Smith Singers at the Adirondack Festival of American Music in July 2000. Traces Gospel Choir is a Small women’s group with roots in many continents. Traces is a diverse ensemble, with members of different musical backgrounds who sing gospel and positive secular music in Norway and the rest of the world.

It was founded in 1978 by Dr. Jeffrey Unger for the sole purpose of providing quality performances of choral music written for the Small ensemble. ...  moreHISTORY The New Jersey Chamber Singers (NJCS) is the premier vocal chamber ensemble of the Jersey Shore. It was founded in 1978 by Dr. Jeffrey Unger for the sole purpose of providing quality performances of choral music written for the Small ensemble. In the 32 years of its existence, NJCS has presented concerts throughout New Jersey and beyond. NJCS was chosen to represent New Jersey at the American Choral Directors Association Eastern Division convention in Baltimore in 1984 and again in Philadelphia in 1988. In June 1991, by invitation of the Bishop of Washington, D.C., NJCS performed at the National Cathedral. In December 1998, NJCS was the guest of the Orpheus Club of Philadelphia and performed in their annual Christmas concert at The Academy of Music. In 1999, NJCS performed at Alice Tully Hall in New York City. MEMBERSHIP The ensemble is composed of both professional and talented amateur musicians. Membership is by audition. This particular setting was composed with a Small mixed-ability choir in mind, so the voices are mainly in two parts (men's and women's voices), splitting to four parts (SATB) occasionally, where the words suggest it. The musical style is reminiscent of the 19th century although the piano part does go into 20th century style syncopation at times.

The original church, built in the 1880s, had a strong choir ...  moreOur Small but talented choir consists mainly of young people. All choir members receive a first-rate musical education. There has been a long tradition of musical excellence at St Laurence’s. The original church, built in the 1880s, had a strong choir of men and boys who took part in the Festival of Britain services in 1951. When the new church was opened in 1968, the musical tradition continued. A new Walker organ was installed in the church, using some pipework from the old organ and Directors of Music have included David Sanger, Professor Roger Wibberley, Paul Dewhurst, Tom Fowkes, Marcus Wibberley, Iain Simcock and Andrew Ibbotson. The current Director of Music is Huw Morgan. Girls were first admitted to the choir some ten years ago, but the choir remains unique in this part of south-east London in that it continues to use only trebles (girls and boys) on the top line.
