The Choir's size allows it to concentrate on performing The larger major Choral works to great effect. The Choir has also been invited to collaborate with The Philharmonia Chorus and The BBC National Chorus of Wales on many occasions in recent years to tackle some of The Choral pieces requiring even greater Choral forces such as Mahler's Eighth Symphony, Janacek's Glagolitic Mass, The Dvorak Stabat Mater and La Damnation de Faust by Berlioz. The aim of The Horizons Project is not simply to stimulate The creation of new South African Choral music; but to stimulate The creation of a new generation of South African Choral composers. There are 2 projects a year, each one focusing on a different genre of Choral compositions. The Choir consists of 24 hand-picked singers. By inviting specific ‘head-hunted’ singers to join The Choir and not just having open public auditions, allows us to hold an extremely high level of musicianship, technical ability and an exclusivity that makes our sound unique. On its first attempt at competitions in 2007, The group won Second Runner-Up in The prestigious PAGCOR Chorale Festival and was chosen as one of The top five winners in The Paskong Himig sa Lungsod ng PASIG Chorale Competition. In December 2007, The Ars Cantica Ensemble was featured at The Opening Ceremonies of The Amazing European Union Christmas held at The Podium, Ortigas and was one of The Choirs invited to grace The Sing For Me Project of The Department of Social Welfare and Development. In February 2010, Ars Cantica Ensemble emerged as one of The winners in Sa ‘Yo Lamang Chorale Fest, a Choral competition sponsored by ABS-CBN and Star Records.
