The Choir is truly representative of The force with a...  moreThe Avon and Somerset Constabulary Male Voice Choir was formed in 1974 following The amalgamation of The Bath and Somerset, Bristol and The South Gloucester part of The Gloucestershire Constabulary. The Choir is truly representative of The force with a membership consisting almost entirely of serving and retired police officers, serving and retired members of The support staff and The special constabulary. We want to maintain The tradition of Choral singing in a pleasant social environment and we do so under The professional leadership and tuition of our musical director Alison Howell, accompanist Julie Payne and deputy accompanist Gemma Leach. We also want to share that musical tradition with The community, raise funds for local organisations and to act as ambassadors for The force. Away from The formal Concerts however There is nothing The members like better than to sing and impromptu performances have taken place on cross channel ferries, in motorway services and in The odd pub or two. It was founded by Rev. Paul Caruana in 1974 as a girls’ Choir and sang for The first time at Christmas that same year. In The following months male voices were added and The enlarged Choir sang for The first time in The Good Friday celebrations of 1975. Eventually adult female voices joined in, establishing an SATB Choir. The first big occasion for The Choir came in 1980, performing works by The compatriot prolific composer of sacred music Joseph Fenech (1917-2010). The Jubilate Deo Choir has since performed at The Teatru Manoel on many occasions, took part in The BBC production “Songs of Praise” that was televised worldwide and in 1990 sang during The visit to Malta of Pope John Paul II. In 1985 The Choir became an Oakham House society open to Ryerson students, faculty and...  moreThe Choir was founded in 1984 as a result of The efforts of Marie Dowler of Ryerson's English department and became a success under The direction of MatThew Jaskiewicz. In 1985 The Choir became an Oakham House society open to Ryerson students, faculty and staff. In 1987 membership was opened to The general public. The Choir is currently made up of Ryerson undergraduates and alumni, current and retired faculty members and people from all ages and walks of life in The community. It ranges in size from 60-80 members. A core of long term members makes it possible to maintain high standards and perform a demanding repertoire. Under MatThew's direction, The Choir has performed over 50 Concerts and on several occasions performed at Ryerson graduation ceremonies. In 1986 The Choir competed in three categories at The Kiwanis Festival, winning first place in two categories and receiving high marks in all three.
