For a long time, the choir existed as Part of this group, performing with its dancers and orchestra, singing mostly folk music; in 1999, Valerija Skapiene, the present artistic director of the choir, began working in "Ugnele", and in a few years, the choir's repertoire extended to include not only folk, but also classical, jazz, world music; in 2002, during "Mes - Lietuvos vaikai" national choral competition, the choir was acknowledged to have reached the level of the first category (this is the highest category of artistic level in Lithuania). JOurneys around the world followed - "Ugnele" has presented Lithuanian culture in fifteen countries from the Netherlands to South Korea; in 2004, the choir started a national choral festival for children, "Dainu mozaika". The Major Minors Children's Choir was formed in February 2012 by Musical Director Joanne Roelofs and Karen Boyce as a one off children's choir of unauditioned primary school aged children which was Part of a choral programme with the Hutt Valley Singers. ...  Play='';$(this).getParent().style.disPlay='none';">morePlay:none;">The Major Minors Children's Choir was formed in February 2012 by Musical Director Joanne Roelofs and Karen Boyce as a one off children's choir of unauditioned primary school aged children which was Part of a choral programme with the Hutt Valley Singers. The choir was such a success and those involved enjoyed it so much that it was decided to continue. The Choir is a training Choir with the children having opportunities to sing or speak solo lines and learn harmonies. Current members are aged between 4 and 12. Each Choir member has a different and wide-ranging background in solo, operatic and competitive performance, which enhances the choir’s ability to undertake some of the more challenging choral works and contributes to their fresh and unique sound. The Academy Chamber Choir’s repertoire spans from early to contemporary music. Their most recent success was ranking third in “Irelands Choir of the Year” at Cork International Choral Festival 2013. They then went on to win 1st place in the Early Music, 1st place in the Irish Language and 2nd place in the Sacred Music at Navan Choral Festival 2013. They were 2nd place in RTE Lyric FM’s Choirs for Christmas Competition – Irelands largest choral competition featuring over 400 choirs.
