World premiere of Odes of Love by Santiago Veros.
Performed by the Case Concert Choir at Case Western Reserve University, conducted by Dr. Christopher Clark.
Premiered on April 20, 2026, at Florence Harkness Memorial Chapel in Cleveland, Ohio.
Odes of Love is a piece about what matters most: life itself.
Santiago Veros is now creating a national initiative for this work. One Choir in each U.S. state will receive the Exclusive State Premiere Rights for Odes of Love.
The idea is simple: one Choir, one state, one local premiere.
This initiative brings together strong Choirs from across the country and gives each director a meaningful way to share this music with their own community. less

TRUJILLO DEL PERÚ (1782-85) / GU Choir
Entering the colonial Spanish-American period, indigenism and slavery raise their voices in the Peruvian Codex of Martinez Compañón (S. XVIII) and in the work of the Spanish Juan de Arañés (S. XVII). The subtle and everyday expressions of the indigenous people, together with those of the Africans, convey their deep desire for freedom. The Bozal Spanish language, as also the themes, texts and rhythm of the works, show the strong syncretism between the Spanish culture and that of the indigenous and African natives.

In May, 2013, composer Ola Gjeilo spent 3 days on the Central Washington University Campus, joining the Choir in recording 4 of his pieces. This performance of Gjeilo's "Sanctus" is from that session.
The other pieces were "Luminous Night of the Soul", & "Across The Vast, Eternal Sky", accompanied by the composer at the piano and joined by the Kairos Quartet -- the resident faculty string quartet at CWU.
The final piece, "Ubi Caritas II: Through Infinite Ages", was recorded both in an unaccompanied rendition (how it is written and published) and in a version with Mr. Gjeilo improvising an accompaniment to the Choir.
This was Ola's second time on CWU's campus. His first visit was in the spring of 2011 and yielded 5 videos, a wide-ranging interview with the composer and other bonus material. It resulted in a DVD entitled "In the Moment", available for purchase at http://goo.gl/Xld0o)
