The school's Choir became very successful in the mid-1980s, winning many competitions including the Llangollen EiSteddfod. When school was over, it seemed natural to carry on singing together as a Choir, and the group's achievements included reaching the semi-finals of Sainsbury's Choir of the Year and appearing on Opportunity Knocks. In the 1990's, the Choir moved to Harrow and officiAlly became known as Jubilate. Sarah Stroh took over as Musical Director in 1999 and since then the Choir has grown significantly, doubling in size to its current membership of 43. There are Still some original members of the Choir, who have been singing together for more than 25 years. This is thanks to the work of Knut NyStedt (b. 1915), organiSt, composer and conductor, who returned to Norway in 1964 after Studying in the USA and Started a Choir at the music department of the University of Oslo. The Choir continues to recruit members from the department of music, as well as from the Norwegian Academy of Music in more recent years. The American choral tradition in which NyStedt was trained emphasises the importance of new music – a practice NyStedt brought back with him to Oslo. Knut NyStedt’s music became a vital element of Schola Cantorum’s repertoire. Tone Bianca Sparre Dahl became conductor in 2002, and has further eStablished the Choir’s firm position in Norway’s musical life. She has continued NyStedt’s tradition of performing modern music.
