At the beginning, PSM-ITB sang only in campus society and subs...  moreOn February 11th 1962, few ITB students established Paduan Suara Mahasiswa Institut Teknologi Bandung (PSM-ITB or ITB Student Choir) which was the first University-based choir in Indonesia. At the beginning, PSM-ITB sang only in campus society and subsequently performed in public. However since 1973, it participated in various national choir competitions and repeatedly won the first prizes. This led PSM-ITB to become one of the most established choirs in Indonesia. In several occasions, the choir has been given the chance to perform in events attended by the President of Indonesia. It regularly performs in concerts, occasionally collaborated with other choirs and orchestras. In 1968 PSM-ITB organized the 1st ITB Choir Festival (FPS-ITB). Since then the festival is held biannually and becomes the largest national choir event in term of categories (from children to adult and folklore catagories) and participants. In 1968, the choir was awarded the status of a National Choir. Over the years, the choir has been led by many talented conductors, e.g. Centis Kriķis, Kārlis Beinerts, Edvīns and Inga Dziļums, Ints Teterovskis, etc. Today the conductors of the choir are Evita Taranda and Zane Zilberte; choir master is Roberts Hansons. the repertoire of the choir varies, as performances include all sorts of music from the time of renaissance to modern music or music written by contemporary artists, e.g. Paul McCartney's oratorio "Ecce Cor Meum" or Czech composer Petr Eben's music "De Circuito Aeterno". the choir has performed in many countries and it has received many awards and international recognition in international competitions.
