At the beginning, PSM-ITB sang only in campus society and subsequently performed in public. However since 1973, it participated in various national choir competitions and repeatedly won the first prizes. This led PSM-ITB to become one of the most established choirs in Indonesia. In several occasions, the choir has been given the chance to perform in events attended by the President of Indonesia. It regularly performs in concerts, occasionally collaborated with other choirs and orchestras.
In 1968 PSM-ITB organized the 1st ITB Choir Festival (FPS-ITB). Since then the festival is held biannually and becomes the largest national choir event in term of categories (from children to adult and folklore catagories) and participants. It has contributed to the history of choral development in Indonesia; most of Indonesian choirs with international achievements were past champions of ITB Choir Festival. This establishes the festival as one of the most awaited events by Indonesian choral community. In 2010, the festival also include an international competition, the ITB International Choir Competition (IICC).
The last achievement of PSM-ITB in national competitions were in the 1st and 2nd Parahyangan Catholic University Choir Competition (2001 and 2003) where it won the 1st prizes in Small Choir Category; and the 3rd Parahyangan Catholic University Choir Competition (2005) where it won a 2nd prize (without 1st prize winner) in the Musica Profana Category.
Prior to the participation in the 3rd Choir Olympics 2004 in Bremen, Germany, ITB Student Choir extends its members to not only students of ITB, but also its alumni; the resulting choir was named ITB Choir. ITB Choir then won two silver medals of Scenic Folklore and Mixed Chamber Choir categories in the Olympics.
In 2005, PSM-ITB appointed Mr. Indra Listiyanto as its music director. Under his direction, three groups are formed within PSM-ITB: a training choir for beginning choral singers, a full concert choir whose members are promoted from the training choir, and a small touring choir whose members are auditioned from the concert choir. Since this year, ITB Student Choir is used as the name of PSM-ITB's training choir and ITB Choir as the name of both concert and touring choirs.
In 2006, ITB Choir also participated in the 4th World Choir Games in Xiamen, China. ITB Choir was awarded a silver medal in Folklore A cappella category and a gold medal in Mixed Choir category (runner-up of the category). In the same event, ITB Student Choir won a gold medal in Mixed Youth Choir category.
In July 2009, ITB Choir conducted a full month cultural tour in Europe. The choir was successfully awarded the first prize in Musica Contemporanea Category, second prize in Folklore Category, and ranked fourth in Polyphony Monographic Category of the 48th International Choral Competition “C.A. SEGHIZZI”, Gorizia, Italy. It was also ranked 4th in the Folklore Category of the 27 Festival Internacional de Música de Cantonigròs, Spain. ITB Choir also performed in concerts in 13 cities where the choir received warm welcome and standing ovations from the audience. less
