He invented the early British form of minimalism known as systems music, with his early "Machines". Humming And Ah-ing Machine is an innovative and fun composition by John White for unaccompanied SATB chorus. The work is made up of short repeated phrases that evolve and entwine, creating a hypnotic and exciting overall work. We performed this piece at a concert in St Michael's Cornhill, London, in 1983.  less

Not even the dike, now, all its length Can retain the shimmer on the tide Nor bid that lonely freight not To set out at this twilight hour. 溫柔的黃昏啊唯美的黃昏 當所有的眼睛都向西凝神 看落日在海葬之前 用滿天壯麗的霞光 像男高音為歌劇收場 對我們這世界說再見 即使防波堤伸得再長 也挽留不了滿海的餘光 更無法叫住姑獨的貨船 莫在這蒼茫的時候出港 林京美繼2013年發表《望海》之後，今年再度以高雄港的景色作為靈感，延伸創作了《蒼茫時刻》；相對於《望海》的張力堆砌，《蒼茫時刻》一曲較著重於描寫孤獨惆悵的情感。 《蒼茫時刻》原詩為余光中教授於1998年所寫，描述高雄港壯麗而淒美的落日，縱有千萬不捨，卻終須一別。樂曲中鋼琴如波浪般的音型，宛若海洋充滿著情感的內心獨白；合唱男聲的高音域，呈現出透明澄澈的水波光影；全曲最後以溫暖的旋律收尾，表述了夕陽無限好，卻稍縱即逝的惆悵傷感。 《蒼茫時刻》由高雄室內合唱團委託創作，於2014年9月20日由朱如鳳老師指揮高雄室內合唱團，於高雄市大東文藝中心演藝廳首演。 (林京美) (2014 © Kaohsiung Chamber Choir. The original church, built in the 1880s, had a strong choir ...  moreOur small but talented choir consists mainly of young people. All choir members receive a first-rate musical education. There has been a long tradition of musical excellence at St Laurence’s. The original church, built in the 1880s, had a strong choir of men and boys who took part in the Festival of Britain services in 1951. When the new church was opened in 1968, the musical tradition continued. A new Walker organ was installed in the church, using some pipework from the old organ and Directors of Music have included David Sanger, Professor Roger Wibberley, Paul Dewhurst, Tom Fowkes, Marcus Wibberley, Iain Simcock and Andrew Ibbotson. The current Director of Music is Huw Morgan. Girls were first admitted to the choir some ten years ago, but the choir remains unique in this part of south-east London in that it continues to use only trebles (girls and boys) on the top line. It was and still is a ...  moreIt was founded in the Holy Week of 1996, as a consequence of the tradition of performing in the church of Brunete (Madrid, Spain) the Responsorios of the Renaissance composer Tomás Luis de Victoria (c. 1548-1611) during that season. It was and still is a Chamber choir especially interested in the polyphony of the Renaissance, and particularly in the composer it takes its name from, although the choir does also interpret works from every period. Its members’ hard work and joint enthusiasm along all these years, under the direction of Antonio Peces, crystallise in the neat blend of the voices and the sensitivity that its interpretations instill. The group provides experience and a consolidated musicality, while exploring every facet of choral music, as well as the singularity of the great masters’ art. The "family" also includes older levels, a treble Chamber choir, a mixed young adult chorus...  moreThe Surrey Children's Choir family represents 3 choirs, a Junior Training Choir, an Intermediate Training Choir, and the Senior Surrey Children's Choir. The "family" also includes older levels, a treble Chamber choir, a mixed young adult chorus, and a community adult chorus. The Junior and Intermediate Training Choirs (JTC and ITC) provide a program of sequentially developed skills which prepare choristers for admission into the Surrey Children's Choir. The training choirs perform annually at the Family Christmas Concert and Year End concert (held in May of each year). They also often compete at the Fraser Valley Kiwanis Music Festival, always with great results. The training choirs may also perform at various events in the community. The SCC, a treble-voice choir of boys and girls aged 12-18 is a consistent gold medal winner at local festivals, hailed by Gerald Van Wyck, Vancouver Community College professor as "one of the best children's choirs in Canada". Homechoir is a new way of learning music. You don’t need to be an accomplished singer to take part. Homechoir members watch and sing along with Ben - teaching is one-way so nobody can hear us but the neighbours! - and are also invited to take part in the live text chat with Ben and with fellow Singers around the world. There is a vibrant and friendly social community among the choir. If you can’t join in live, then you can still enjoy the music-making at any time. All our sessions remain available on YouTube after the live streams end for watching on catch-up when you can, and as often as you like.
