Highlights will include a final night Gala Concert in Worcester's magnificent cathedral, featuring the World Premiere of a specially commissioned work from UK composer Bob Chilcott (Five Days that Changed the World with words by Charles Bennett), individual choirs' concerts in venues in and around the historic city of Worcester, sight-seeing trips and activities for visiting choirs, Welcome Concert in the cathedral, and a concert for participants given by a leading UK vocal group. Huddersfield Piazza on Saturday 12/5/12 @ 11am - A group of singers from the Gledholt Male Voice Choir, Marsh Ladies Choir and other choirs from as far a field as Cheshire and Harrogate plus a few willing Hollybank trust staff surprised the onlooking sho...  moreHuddersfield Piazza on Saturday 12/5/12 @ 11am - A group of singers from the Gledholt Male Voice Choir, Marsh Ladies Choir and other choirs from as far a field as Cheshire and Harrogate plus a few willing Hollybank trust staff surprised the onlooking shoppers by performing an impromptu performance of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus. The rousing performance was part of Gledholt MVC's Gala day which included performances from Elvis, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Pipe Band and also a Zumba class. There was also a concert in Huddersfield town hall in the evening. Out Aloud is Sheffield's Gay choir. It was formed in 2006 and enables lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgendered people in Sheffield to enjoy singing as a community. There are no auditions and members dont need to be experenced singers or read music.

The work, called Poohratorio of course, is due to be published once AA Milne goes into public domain (2031).  less

Since its formation in 1964, the choir appears annually at the Welsh Proms and has performed with many of the world’s leading conductors, orchestras and soloists including: Sir Colin Davies; Sir Andrew Davies; Tadaaki Otaka; Owain Arwel Hughes; The London Symphony Orchestra; BBC National Orchestra of Wales; The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; Raphael Wallfisch, Luciano Pavarotti; Dame Kiri Te Kanawa; Felicity Lott and Bryn Terfel. We have also sung for both the Queen and Nelson Mandela. The choir’s versatility has led to countless recordings and broadcasts on both Radio and Television, most recently on BBC Radio 4. It was first created by a few friends in 1991, then enlarged over the years. It has been conducted by Stephan Nicolay since 2004. The choir aims to share quality music and new experiences with the audience. That is why La Sestina often performs with crossover arts on a main theme e.g. French Renaissance chansons in 16th century clothes with an actress, a cappella sacred contemporary music with dancers and video projection, Baroque French music with chamber orchestra and a lecturer, medieval Spanish music with mediterranean ensemble of lutes and percussions, etc. Also, the choir aims at supporting humanitarian and social actions by offering one or several concerts each year. Many international NGO have benefited from these charity concerts such as Unicef, Unesco, Amnesty International, Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières and so on, but also very local associations. It was a lively and intense musical experience that led a good part of the group to continue singing as a symphonic choir, which is how they define themselves. Singing, living together and sharing is the motto of this choral group.
