Rehearsing at Akcan Akademi under conductor Özgen Öz, the choir is an active member of Koro Kültürü Derneği (the Choral Culture Association). Since its founding, FeminAnka has been invited to numerous festivals and has been honoured with several awards. Having shared the stage with Türkiye’s leading choirs, the choir continues to strengthen the place of the female voice in polyphonic music — with a repertoire spanning polyphonic arrangements of folk songs, contemporary works, sacred music and pop. We keep working with the same enthusiasm as on day one, driven by the wish to resonate alongside musicians devoted to polyphonic music in different countries, cities and concert halls.  less

The Choir acquired a reputation for top class singing and in addition often invited to perform at important national events such as to perform with other schools when princess Elizabeth visited Ceylon in 1952. Since Mr. Bonnie Fonseka’s retirement there were many dedicated young musicians who undertook the responsibility and uphill task of training the Choir. Some of them were Mr. Robert Joseph, Mr. Francis De Almeida, Mr. Nicholas Johnpulle, Rev Bro. Augustine and Mr. Ravein George. Mr. Ravein George revived the Choir in 1996 and guided them to reach the height of success as being cited as a Classical Choir. The Choir won the all island singing competition in the year 1999. The Choir of recent times is being Directed by a student of Ravien George and current...    less
