This intercultural choir comprises fifteen amateur singers from several african countries.
It was first establishments in 1996 in Dakar by a group of youth who adored the art of singing. The choir CONsistently performed varions type of music, gathering between both classical and modern music (folklore and international). The Choir was formed in 1986 initially to provide a choir for Midnight Eucharist on Christmas Eve, but since then we have become an established part of the Wells Cathedral scene, and now sing 40 to 50 of the regular services throughout the year, as well as some of the festival services which include a Requiem Mass on All Soul’s Day.
We are an amateur auditioned choir of 30 and strive for a high standard, so for potential members it is important to have a reasonable sight-singing ability. We rehearse regularly throughout the year on a Thursday evening.
The music we perform is very varied and as well as psalms we sing a wide range of canticles, masses and anthems of all genres so “Variety is the spice of life”!
There is no membership fee, as we are fortunate to be supported financially with grants from the Cathedral Chapter and the Friends of Wells Cathedral.
When we are in the Cathedral we are often singing in the Quire where we face one another, effectively as tw... less

Our repertoire is diverse, and we are open to all church members and also to anyone who is friendly to the church. No special requirements. We are stretching ourselves to be better music readers and vocal technicians, and also to be able to learn music by ear, memorize simpler songs quickly, and be free in our bodies while singing.

Initially formed in 1987 simply as a means for those interested to gather together to sing, more formal CONcerts were later organized and presented.
In addition to two planned CONcerts a year (a Christmas CONcert in the Fall and a Spring CONcert), there are frequently requests from local organizations for appearances. For example, in the spring of 2011, the group performed at the Wright Brothers Monument for the Centennial of the Wright Brothers Glider Flight.
The repertoire of the Outer Banks Chorus ranges from the Classical to Broadway, and spirituals of all kinds and in different languages. Recently the chorus has sung a number of premiere performances of pieces by CONtemporary composers.
All are invited to hear the chorus sing exceptionally lovely and wonderful choral music.
