The Joy Voices choir has not stopped: we have chosen a song from our repertoire and each of us, from our own home, has recorded it. The result is, for us, a new performance, different from the usual, which we share to send you our best wishes so that you can spend this difficult period serenely, despite everything.
Our thoughts and prayers are dedicated in particular to those who fight the virus in the front line, to those who work to guarantee us the essential services, to those who are alone, to those who are sick, to those who are in despair, to those who did not make it and to those who have lost a loved one.
Let us send a message of hope for the future, raising our voices to the Lord, confident that He will listen to us and that we will soon return to embrace Him again. Let us remain distant but unite... less

The words are my own and tell of children playing their games in the dusty streets (ie of Bethlehem) unaware that a miracle has happened and asking them to look up to the angels and join their singing.
The performance here is by the Composer's choir conducted by Daniel Shaw.

About Opus Nuovo:
This season, we launched an ongoing commissioning project as a commitment to a diverse and inclusive approach to choral programming. Through this innovation, we are seeking to broaden the landscape of the choral repertoire for both student and professional choirs. Over the next three years, our singers will collaborate with ten global composers to facilitate the creation of a collection of new choral works which, aligned with BCC’s vision of cultural equity, represent a truly diverse spectrum of global musical styles and approaches. Songs and Cries of London Town by Bob Chilcott and varied choral cantata in five movements for STAB choir, upper-voice choir, piano duet, and optional percussion. The two outer movements draw their words and inspiration from boisterous cries of 17th century market vendors as once featured in 'The Cries of London' by Orlando Gibbbons. The second movement features the words of a Scottish poet, William Dunbar (c. 1460-c.1520), in which he praises the English capital, and includes the line 'London, thou art the flower of cities all'. Together, these settings evoke a surprisingly contemporary impression of London's sights, sounds, and moods, inspiring some irresistible music, by turns contemplative and unquenchably thrilling. This 'capital' cantata was written in 2001 for the Diamond Jubilee of the Barnet Choral Society, of which Chilcott is President. less

Manx VOICES, formally the Manx Girls choir, was formed 60 years ago by Harry Pickard, and the choir has undergone many changes since then, including its name and the membership and audition rules which are now much more flexible. We live in the Isle of Man, a small island with a population of about 80,000 situated in the Irish Sea, between England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. It is a Crown Dependency which means it is a self governing possession of the British Crown. We are very proud of our parliament, Tynwald which claims to be the world's oldest parliament in continuous existence, dating back to 979. We also issue our own bank notes, coins and stamps and enjoy a unique perspective in terms of our language, (Manx Gaelic), history, music and art. It is a beautiful island with very varied scenery.
The choir is SSA, (soprano, mezzo-soprano and alto) and has a membership base of around 40 members under the watchful eye of Musical Director, Angela Stew... less
