Founded in 2005, VOH has been entertaining Abu Dhabi audiences ever since! We have members of all skill levels and are a multicultural group. We use professionally made voice tracks to help learn our parts with precision, thus allowing us to put aside our sheet music and really enjoy the magic of hearing all the harmonies merged into the ringing chords of the Barbershop style! It’s the blend of these unique vocal parts that creates the space for an exciting Ensemble. Barbershop singing style is unaccompanied, and creates four-part a cappella harmony. Although barbershop-style music is usually built on simple melodies and is relatively easy to sing, the "a cappella style" and the ear training necessary for independent part singing make it one of the most challenging and rewarding accomplishments of a vocal Ensemble. A “friendly” audition is required, and a commi...    less

Our purpose is “to sing, in harmony, a variety of music for the enjoyment of the members as well as to give public and private performances for the listening pleasure of others”. During our musical season (September – June), the choir practices on Monday evenings from 7 – 9:30 PM at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Richmond. In addition to our weekly practices we usually plan one or two workshops with a choral clinician, as well as evenings with guest directors. We have two major performances per year, a Family Christmas Concert in December and a Spring Concert in May. We are very involved with our community and, by giving benefit concerts, help to raise funds for other organizations such as the Richmond Hospice Society, Canadian Cancer Foundation and Tim Horton’s Kids Camps. As a group member of the Richmond Community Arts Council, the Richmond Singers has established a legacy that attests to a vested interest in the arts in Richmond...    less

Morna Edmundson, Artistic Director, takes us through two of her warmups, 1) using folk song melodies to encourage legato singing and natural phrasing and 2) "Umbrellas" to ease the top of a woman's range. Elektra's mandate is "to inspire and lead in the choral art form through excellence in performance and the creation, exploration, and celebration of Women's repertoire." Your thoughts on the video? Let's start a conversation! Repertoire referenced in Episode One: Un Canadien errant, Quebec folk song, arr. Mark Sirett ( http://www.marksirett.ca ); Sheet music: Kelman Hall 04/20MMP29 (Music Plus) (http://musicpluscorp.com/KELMAN%20HALL/88/0); Audio recording available on iTunes and on "Pure Elektra" CD (http://elektra.ca/store/products/pure-elektra/ and http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/elektrawomenschoir2)  less

Under the leadership of Musical Director and soprano, Michelle Nova, the singers perform an eclectic repertoire of classical, sacred, operatic and modern choral music. In recent years, the choir has championed contemporary composers writing specifically for the female voice, placing these pieces alongside classics by the likes of Fauré, Vivaldi, Mozart and Holst. The choir's unique sound is characterised by its vibrancy and fullness, a result of the 'Bel Canto' singing technique in which all the singers are trained. New for 2026, the choir is inviting experienced singers to join them - especially women with an alto or lower soprano range. Visit their website to find out more about the audition process. This is an ambitious choir that combines a friendly and welcoming atmosphere with high standards: a chance to make a real contribution.  less
