The Choir is truly representative of the force with a membership consisting almost entirely of serving and retired police officers, serving and retired members of the support staff and the special constabulary. We want to maintain the tradition of choral singing in a pleasant social environment and we do so under the professional leadership and tuition of our musical director Alison Howell, accompanist Julie Payne and deputy accompanist Gemma Leach.
We also want to share that musical tradition with the community, raise funds for local organisations and to act as ambassadors for the force. Away from the formal concerts however there is nothing the members like better than to sing and impromptu performances have taken place on cross channel ferries, in motorway services and in the odd pub or two.

Last July, over 100 BIG Sing members flash mobbed the Maldon Tesco Store and the YouTube video has had over 16,000 views, raising money for Cancer Research UK. As well as community events, The BIG Sing have hosted their own sold out shows in Essex and have many more coming up this year!
As The BIG Sing grows we are continuing to reach out to more people of all ages and backgrounds. We aim to unite people with uplifting music and have seen the Choir members grow in confidence, experience the thrill of performing on stage, make new Friends and belong to a new Choir family. The BIG Sing not only has several thriving community Choirs but also advanced Choirs (The BIG Sing Pro), children's Choirs (LITTLE Sing), singing groups for babies and tots (TINY Sing), school Choirs, and corporate singing Choirs. It is a meditation on the meaning of transubstantiation.
[English original]
Hoc est enim corpus meum
The world's eternity lies here within my hand.
The weight of pain, of love, redemption is a sigh upon my hand,
My Christ, Lord of the infinite,
small to my comfort in my hand.
Humility of Love that tender here lies low.
White, trusting, full of care within my hand.
So, in my hand lies God.
Hoc est enim corpus meum. less
