THE silver fleet (de Zilvervloot) was an Annual convoy of ships in THE 16th and 17th centuries, in which valuables from THE Spanish colonies in America were shipped to Spain. In THE NeTHErlands, THE silver fleet is best known for its conquest by Piet Hein in 1628.

THE Drake Choir is Drake University’s select touring ensemble, performing regionally on an Annual basis and internationally every four years, most recently in May 2012. It has appeared in major venues in Austria, Germany, Italy, THE Czech Republic, Wales... moreTHE Drake Choir is Drake University’s select touring ensemble, performing regionally on an Annual basis and internationally every four years, most recently in May 2012. It has appeared in major venues in Austria, Germany, Italy, THE Czech Republic, Wales, and Ireland. THE ensemble regularly collaborates with THE Des Moines Symphony and sang THE Beethoven Ninth Symphony with that orchestra in September 2011. THE Drake Choir has performed in Carnegie Hall and has been featured on THE conference program of THE American Choral Directors Association North Central Division.
THE ensemble consists of 64-70 singers who are First-year students through seniors and who represent every College of THE University. Auditions for returning students take place in April and for new students during THE weekend preceding THE start of THE fall semester. THE ensemble rehearses Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 3:30-5:00 p.m. and is conducted by Dr. Aimee Beckmann-Collier, Director of Choral Studies and Professor of Condcuting. less

Our Annual programme typically includes 6-8 Concerts in THE Harpenden area and furTHEr afield, a caTHEdral tour, open singing days and THE occasional recording. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at St George’s School, Harpenden. We are known for good music making, varied repertoire including regular commissions, excellent soloists, interesting Concert venues and loyal patronage of a range of local hostelries….
We come from a wide range of musical backgrounds and have a thriving interns scheme for talented singers from local schools.
Over our 50 year history, THE Leas have sung under 11 permanent conductors and many guests, each of whom has made a distinctive contribution to our style and repertoire. In December 2011 we appointed Benjamin Goodson to take up THE baton.
