Bridgnorth Choral Society welcomed the appointment of Melanie Holt as Publicity Officer at their Annual General Meeting last month. The Choral Society was established in 2006 and conducts regular performances in Bridgnorth and surrounding areas, often raising money for local charities. Melanie hopes that her enthusiasm for singing and performance will assist in being able to publicise the choir and their events. ‘ I’m a great believer in you get out what you put in, so will be working hard on ideas to raise the profile of the group’. Other officers elected were; Chairman: Ron Vaughan; Secretary: Diane Chambers; Treasurer: Sue Davies; Librarian: June Westwood and Section Representatives; Anne Plant and Bob Wilkinson.
The Society's next event is their Christmas Concert on Saturday December 17th to which the public are invited to come and join a packed evening programme of carols and traditional classics, modern and old favourites that will leave you feeling in the mood for Christmas and Melanie says rehearsals are already well underway, one particular favourite being Michael Clawson's beautiful and imaginative alliance of The First Noel with Pachelbel's canon.
Melanie says “the atmosphere at the Christmas Concert is always warm and festive but this year is going to be extra special as we are being joined by the Oldbury Wells School vocal group, 'Encore' and we’re all very much looking forward to the different dimension they’ll bring. Encore will be joining with the choral society on some numbers as well as performing a showcase piece.
The concert will be taking place at Bridgnorth Baptist Church, West Castle Street. Tickets are already on sale at a cost of £5 from Choral Society or Encore members and will be available on the door.
