From its beginning it has been affiliated with ZAMEK Culture Centre. Experienced and respected pedagogues-musicians look after the musical development of the girls and artistic program. The Choir is conducted and creatively inspired by its Artistic Director and Conductor Alicja Szeluga, an educator and choral music aficionado. The Vocal Coach Marzena Michałowska, and accompanying pianist Czesław Łynsza, as well as percussionist Beata Polak complete the musical team. The SKOWRONKI Girls Choir also has programs for younger groups. The ensemble is consists of 140 girls aged between 6 and 22. The singers of the choir are secondary School students as well as students from universities of Poznań. The group’s repertoire rediscovers and promotes works of various composers from different periods as well as performs pieces commissioned especially for the choir. This performance, however was part of the me...  moreI wrote this in 1976 for the six singing students of Pat Scanlon, a colleague of mine at West Heath School, who died from complications of Hodgkins Lymphoma. The first performance was at her memorial service. This performance, however was part of the memorial service in St Martin in the Fields, for Ruth Rudge, who was a very distinguished and lovely lady, and also my first boss. The ladies of the Occasional Choir, whose beginnings were as the Madrigal Choir at West Heath, which I co-founded, all those years ago, are the singers, including one of the six that took part in the very first performance. I am conducting, and Penny Walker, who now directs the choir is accompanying. Unfortunately less than half the singers are visible in the video.  less

As the premiere Chorale ensemble at OSU, the OSU Chamber Choir, under the direction of Dr. Steven Zielke, has garnered national attention and international awards. While touring Eastern Europe in 2001, the choir received the Grand Prize at the Festival of Light in Bulgaria, and in April 2006, the Chamber Choir was selected as the only collegiate mixed choir from outside of the state of Utah to perform at the 60th Music Educators National Biennial Conference in Salt Lake City. The choir has performed in many exciting venues, including a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in Smetana Hall in Prague and at Strathov Monastery in Prague Castle, the first choir allowed to perform in the monastery in decades. While the majority of the singers are undergraduate music majors, membership is open to all students at the university through an audition process. The group has achieved an impressive reputation of excellence, having been chosen each of the last twenty years to perform at conventions or festivals around the country: the Pennsylvania Music Educators State Conference; the Eastern Division Music Educators National Conference; the Music Educators National Convention; the American Choral Directors Association Pennsylvania State Conference, and the ACDA Eastern Division Convention. The choir is renowned on the international stage as well, representing the US at competitions and festivals around the world. By and by , they were ably assisted by Highly interested and committed lay trainers cum teachers who went on to train prize winning choirs that stood out among Schools and also were in great demand for national events. It was Mr. Bonnie Fonseka, a distinguished Old Boy, who's vision soon came to be a Benedictine tradition, by forming a musical club. This prompted the birth of the first College Choir. The Choir acquired a reputation for top class singing and in addition often invited to perform at important national events such as to perform with other Schools when princess Elizabeth visited Ceylon in 1952. Since Mr. Bonnie Fonseka’s retirement there were many dedicated young musicians who undertook the responsibility and uphill task of training the Choir. Some of them were Mr. Robert Joseph, Mr. Francis De Almeida, Mr. Nicholas Johnpulle, Rev Bro. Augustine and Mr. Ravein George. Mr. Ravein George revived the Choir in 1996 and guided them to reach the height of success as being cited as a Classical Choir. The Choir won the all island singing competition in the year 1999.
