The choir has built an international reputation and has maDe it a traDemark to incluDe newly written music in its programmes. This is thanks to the work of Knut Nystedt (b. 1915), organist, composer and conductor, who returned to Norway in 1964 after studying in the USA and started a choir at the music Department of the University of Oslo. The choir continues to recruit members from the Department of music, as well as from the Norwegian AcaDemy of Music in more recent years. The American choral tradition in which Nystedt was trained emphasises the importance of new music – a practice Nystedt brought back with him to Oslo. Knut Nystedt’s music became a vital element of SchoLa Cantorum’s repertoire. Tone Bianca Sparre Dahl became conductor in 2002, and has further established the choir’s firm position in Norway’s musical life. She has continued Nystedt’s tradition of performing moDern music. Since 1998, it has been gathering in Poznań young people from various universities - people who are musically talented, active and open to new friendships and exchange of cultural experiences. The AcaDemic Choir of Gdańsk University of Technology performed at the Second GaLa Concert of the 16th edition of the festival. The concert was held in the Adam Mickiewicz University AuLa, known for its excellent acoustics.
