About Me
Ron Oñate, an undergraduate of AB Comm Arts from UPLB started singing in a church choir at the age of 6 moving on to his high school choir and later to Himig UPLB a choir from the University of the Philippines Los Banos for almost 4 years in which he underwent a Chorale Workshop with UP Singing Ambassadors and Conductor Ed Manguiat . A few years later he trained shortly with the world renowned UE Chorale under Mrs. Anna Abeleda-Piquero of the Philippine Madrigal Singers and Coro de Sta. Cecilia under Mr. Christopher Borela also of the Philippine Madrigal Singers. He started his choral conducting stint in 2009. In the same year he mentored his Church choir, Himig Misyonero and San Felipe Neri Parish Choir to win 2nd Place in Awit alay kay Maria a local chorale competition in Mandaluyong City and a Grand Prize at the Merry Makers A capella Christmas Carol Contest sponsored by the Greenfield District besting 6 other choirs from Metro Manila. It was 2010 when Ron got the chance to sing again as he joined Koro Ilustrado under the tutelage of multi-awarded Conductor Anna Abeleda-Piquero. He also became a Member of the Philippine Choral Directors Association after attending the 1st PCDA National Convention and Master class for conductors in Davao City. It was March of 2011 when the San Felipe Chamber Singers (now the Mandaluyong Chamber Singers), a group which he founded in 2010 won Silver Diplomas in both Sacred and Folk Categories at the 1st Vietnam International Choir Festival and Competition, two months later, his young group qualified to compete in the Semi Final Round of the 3rd Musica FEUropa. Ron received a scholarship to participate in the Annual Asian Institute for Liturgy and Music Summer Workshop on Chorale Conducting and Composition under the care of Dr. Francisco Feliciano and the AILM Faculty such as Ms. Sharon Abesamis, Mr. Joel Aquino, Prof. Arwin Tan, Mr. Ralph Hoffman, Mr. Dyzon Pesquera and 2 of the most sought after composer and choral arranger in the Philippines Mr. Alejandro Consolacion II and Mr. Joy Nilo from May 1-6, 2011. The young musician intends to pursue his formal music education at the Asian Institute for Liturgy and Music to further develop his skills as a Choir Conductor. As a mentor, Ron has provided free workshops and Choir Clinics for starting groups like the Megamall Employees Choir, and recently, 10 different choirs from Cagayan De Oro and Tagoloan Misamis Oriental as part of his advocacy to share the gift of music and excellence. Ron is also the Conductor of the Arellano University-Plaridel Campus High School Glee Club, Chapel of the Eucharistic Lord Children's and Youth Choirs, Servant of God Police Choir and the A.S.C.I.M. Chorale composed of 60 senior citizens from Mandaluyong City. The Budding Composer, Premiered his first composition "Ama Namin" at the Musica Sacra Choir Festival in Phil-Am Life Auditorium last September 17, 2011 while his new take on "Lux Aeterna" was performed by the Mandaluyong Children's Choir Musicianship 3 class on their Annual Summer Recital last May 31, 2012.
Ron is also part of the Mandaluyong Children's Choir Music School teaching staff.
The Mandaluyong Chamber Singers (formerly the San Felipe Chamber Singers) was formed on August of 2010. Roughly a year after conception the group has successfully represented the Philippines at the 1st Vietnam International Choir Festival and Competition,... moreThe Mandaluyong Chamber Singers (formerly the San Felipe Chamber Singers) was formed on August of 2010. Roughly a year after conception the group has successfully represented the Philippines at the 1st Vietnam International Choir Festival and Competition, Hoi An 2011. Under the Leadership of Founder and Choirmaster Ron Oñate, they brought home 2 silver diplomas for the Folk and Sacred Music Categories from the said competition, establishing their mark on the international choir scene.
Chamz, as they are popularly known, has continually rendered their voices for various Television shows, Music Festivals, Product endorsements, corporate events, charity concerts and outreach activities. Acknowledged by the City Government of Mandaluyong, alongside the Mandaluyong Children’s Choir as one of the cities musical pride, the group had started to accumulate support from people that their heartwarming voices have touched.
