  • About Me As one of the young emerging composers, Michele Josia's work encompasses film soundtracks, choral and orchestral works, and far more than merely a composer, he's also a well known choir conductor. Moved to Slovenia in 2003, he was the conductor of the chamber choir Vox Carniolus of Jesenice (Slovenia), the Chamber Choir Krog of Ljubljana (Slovenia), the Mixed Choir of the University of Architecture in Ljubljana, co-director and co-founder , along with Mauro Marchetti, of the Italian-Slovenian chamber Choir "Vocalkor", director of the Symphony Orchestra of the Gymnasium of Kranj (Slovenia) and the Ipavska Chamber Choir, one of the most wellknown Slovenian mixed choir. He has been, over the years, also assistant-conductor of outstanding mixed choirs such as the "Coro Musicanova" of Rome (cond. Fabrizio Barchi), the "APZ Tone Tomsic Academic Choir University of Ljubljana" (cond. Ursa Lah), the mixed choir "Veter" of Ljubljana (cond. Ursa Lah) and the men's Choir "Val" - Vokalna Akademija Ljubljana - (cond. Stojan Kuret). He was attending masterclasses in choral conducting with Stojan Kuret (Slovenia), Peter Hanke (Denmark) and Gary Graden (USA). Josia performed countless concerts and recorded 20 CDs as conductor and assistant-conductor. With his ensembles, he won numerous prizes in regional, national and international choral competitions such as Skofja Loka (Slovenia), Maribor (Slovenia, national and international), Bratislava (Slovakia), Riva del Garda (Italy), Bad Ischl (Austria), Postojna (Slovenia) and he got official recognition by the JSKD (Public Fund for cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia), including the prestigious "Plaque of the Mayor of Jesenice" (Plaketa Zupana občine Jesenice) conferred by the mayor of the city of Jesenice (Slovenia) for cultural merits and for the national and international successes gained over the years. His choral compositions have received several awards in international choral competitions, are published by Astrum Music Publications, performed in Italy and abroad and published on several CDs. Michele Josia is often appointed as a jury member in composition competitions and in international choral competition contests, as well as lecturer in choral conducting and film music masterclasses. Among his works, Josia collaborated as choir conductor assistant with Ennio Morricone in the preparation of the soundtracks of films such as “Vatel”, “Aida degli alberi” (Aida of the trees), “Padre Pio tra cielo e terra” (Padre Pio between Heaven and earth), “La Piovra 10”, and also in “Giuseppe di Nazareth” with music by Marco Frisina. In December 2011, his music was performed by the renowned American composer, conductor and Grammy Award winner Eric Whitacre. Up to now, Michele Josia wrote 35 soundtracks from documentaries to short films, medium length films and feature films. He won 5 film industry awards and 30 music awards as composer and conductor. Michele Josia is the artistic director of the International Choral Competition "Musica Eterna Roma", member of the International Film Music Society of China, member of the Italian Film Academy, founder member of the Italian Choral Directors Association and member of the European Film Academy for the European Film Awards (European equivalent of the Oscars). Michele Josia is represented by The Max Steiner Agency in Hollywood, California (U.S.A.).
