  • About Me Kyle J. Cook is a native of Bellaire, Ohio, and earned a B.A. in Music Education from West Liberty University in 2013.

Kyle served as the Chorus Director for Moyock Middle School and Currituck County Middle School from August 2013 through June 2017 and currently teaches at Western Branch Middle School in Chesapeake, Virginia. During his tenure in Currituck County, Kyle was named the New Teacher of the Year at both Moyock and Currituck County Middle Schools, the overall district New Teacher of the Year, and was named the 2015 Currituck County Middle School Teacher of the Year. At Western Branch Middle School, Kyle serves as the PBIS coach and is a new teacher mentor. His choirs have received Superior Ratings at local and state adjudications in both repertoire and sight reading; performed the tree lighting ceremony at Busch Gardens Christmas Town; and received Superior Ratings and Grand Champion awards at the Kings Dominion Festival of Music. His students host an annual benefit concert and consistently earn placement in competitive ensembles such as the All-City, All-District, and All-State Choirs. Among these accolades, Kyle's choir has been named the 2019 Virginia Music Educators Association's Middle School Conference Performance Choir.

Kyle is also beginning his fifth year as the Director of the Outer Banks Chorus. As a clinician, Kyle has provided professional development on local and statewide conferences and has been featured as a guest conductor for the RavensWay Foundation's annual benefit concert and the Outer Banks Presbyterian Church's "Let Freedom Ring" patriotic celebration. He has been inducted into the Bellaire High School Fine Arts Hall of Fame and was featured as an Albemarle Neighbor of the Week. Kyle has also served as a judge for the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference's Queen of Queens scholarship pageant.

Initially formed in 1987 simply as a means for those interested to gather together to sing, more formal concerts were later organized and presented. In addition to two planned concerts a year (a Christmas concert in the Fall and a Spring concert), there are frequently requests from local organizations for appearances. For example, in the spring of 2011, the group performed at the Wright Brothers Monument for the Centennial of the Wright Brothers Glider Flight. The repertoire of the Outer Banks Chorus ranges from the Classical to Broadway, and spirituals of all kinds and in different languages. Recently the chorus has sung a number of premiere performances of pieces by contemporary composers. All are invited to hear the chorus sing exceptionally lovely and wonderful choral music.  less
