About Me Chris Artley was born in 1963 in Leeds, England. He studied Music at Bristol University specializing in composition under the guidance of Derek Bourgeois. More recently he has studied composing, jazz performance and arrangement at Auckland University in New Zealand. Chris has spent 30 years teaching music in schools in the United Kingdom and New Zealand, where he is now resident and teaches at King’s College, Auckland. He sings with The Graduate Choir of New Zealand and is a keen amateur jazz pianist.
Chris has won first prize in ten international composing competitions organized respectively by The Amadeus Choir of Toronto (2011); The Lutheran Youth Choir of North America (2013); The Australian and New Zealand Viola Society* (2013); The European Choral Association (2013); Recital Music*, United Kingdom (2014), The Choral Art Festival Jihlava, Czech Republic (2014), Cincinnati Camerata Composition Competition (2016), The Freudig Singers of Western New York (2071), Leeds Philharmonic Chorus (2017) and St Mary-at-Hill Singers London (2017). His works are published by Helbling Verlag in Austria, Pana Musica in Japan and Royal School of Music in UK. He is a fully represented SOUNZ composer.
