  • About Me A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, Richard Allen Roe is the Founder, Artistic Director, and Conductor of ChorSymphonica, a professional project choir and orchestra headquartered in metropolitan Washington, DC. ChorSymphonica has drawn hundreds to its exciting performances of classic choral and choral-orchestral repertoire.

Prior to forming ChorSymphonica, Mr. Roe led a Bach Cantata series at First Trinity Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Washington, DC, and was conductor of Bach to the Future (now the Tidewater Chamber Singers) on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Richard Allen Roe has taught choral music and choral conducting at York College of Pennsylvania, and as a graduate student at Indiana University and the University of Iowa.

He holds degrees from the University of North Texas and Southern Methodist University, and has completed all courses and qualifying examinations leading to the Doctor of Music degree in choral conducting at Indiana University. Additional graduate studies were pursued at Westminster Choir College, and the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst, Frankfurt am Main, where at the age of 22 he was accepted into the conducting class of Helmuth Rilling, and the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart, Germany.

He has performed as a chorister under Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Helmuth Rilling, Robert Shaw, Eduardo Mata, and many others. As a professional choral singer he has concertized, recorded and toured with the Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart. Besides Helmuth Rilling, his primary conducting teachers were Henry Gibbons and Anshel Brusilow.

Additional support comes from private foundations, including the Paul M. Founded in 2011 by conductor Richard Allen Roe, the group first took the name The Advent Project, owing to the Advent repertoire performed on their first concert. The group has since explored a wide range of repertoire, from Renaissance to Romantic era a cappella music, with a strong emphasis on the cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach. Along with their concert performances, ChorSymphonica has developed a unique concert experience, called Conversation Concerts.
