  1. Wir glauben all an einen Gott, / We all believe in one true God,
  Schöpfer Himmels und der Erden, / Maker of earth and heaven,
  der sich zum Vater geben hat, / The father who to us the power
  dass wir seine Kinder werden. / To become his sons hath given.
  Er will uns allzeit ernähren, / He will at all times nourish,
  Leib und Seel auch wohl bewahren; / Soul and body, guard us, guide us,
  allem Unfall will er wehren, / 'Mid all harms will keep and cherish,
  kein Leid soll uns widerfahren. / That no ill shall e'er betide us.
  Er sorget für uns, hüt' und wacht; / He watches o're us day and night,
  es steht alles in seiner Macht. / All things are gouverned by his might.
  
  This hymn and tune were intended by Luther to be sung as the Creed during the morning service ("the German Mass"), and remained in such use for a long time.
