Thompson. The 40-80 member A Cappella Choir offers freshman and sophomore singers the opportunity to perform works for larger choirs and to FIne-tune the art of choral singing through exposure to music from the Renaissance through the 21st century. In daily rehearsals, choir members hone musicianship skills such as rhythm, sight-reading and the understanding of complex scores. They develop an understanding of the intricacies of vocal production, including pitch and how to blend individual voices together into a unified, beautiful sound. Finally, members learn how to sing in an ensemble and to successfully meld as a team. The choir frequently performs with other School of Music ensembles, including the Utah Philharmonia orchestra, the Wind Ensemble, the Chamber Choir and Women’s Chorus. Since our first practice on 14 February 2013 the choir has grown to over 80 members with around 60 attending each Thursday.

The choristers met each other during their nine-year education in FIne arts as members of the St. Thomas Boys Choir Leipzig. Today the ensemble consists of tenors Christian Pohlers and Paul Heller as well as basses Felix Hübner, Lucas Heller and Lukas Lomtscher. Their repertoire ranges from late medieval mass songs to modern age works. The five young musicians attach great importance to the works of German Romantic composers, such as Schubert, Schumann and Mendelssohn Bartholdy, as well as to their extensive repertoire of church music. The ensemble successfully collaborates with a number of other artists, such as the composer Manfred Schlenker(GER), who dedicated his motet Gott wohnt in einem Lichte to the quintet, on a regular basis. Volker Bräutigam wrote several pieces for them to perform during the festivities at the 35th Leipziger Jazztage. Major city tour destinations have included San Antonio, St. Louis, Kansas City, Chicago, Milwaukee, Lincoln, and Omaha. Membership is by audition. Conducted by Bradon Dean.
