The "family" also includes older levels, a Treble chamber choir, a mixed young adult chorus, and a community adult chorus. The Junior and Intermediate Training Choirs (JTC and ITC) provide a program of sequentially developed skills which prepare choristers for admission into the Surrey Children's Choir. The training choirs perform annually at the Family Christmas Concert and Year End concert (held in May of each year). They also often compete at the Fraser Valley Kiwanis Music Festival, always with great results. The training choirs may also perform at various events in the community. The SCC, a Treble-voice choir of boys and girls aged 12-18 is a consistent gold medal winner at local festivals, hailed by Gerald Van Wyck, Vancouver Community College professor as "one of the best children's choirs in Canada". Participants performed in the crypt of the legendary Sagrada Família in Barcelona, in the historic Sant Romà Church in Lloret de Mar, and joined choirs from different countries to fill the city’s main square with music. The competition became a true platform for cultural exchange: creative meetings, joint rehearsals, and masterclasses with international experts gave participants new knowledge and lasting inspiration. Golden Voices of Barcelona is more than just a competition — it is an event where music transcends borders and unites hearts. More Info https://choirs.fiestalonia.net/  less

This song was written by Ralph Schmitt who (amongst other things) leads the Rodean Girls School Choir (Johannesburg). We had the pleasure of learning this from them at a workshop before a joint concert in 2010. If you hunt YouTube you can find several clips of them performing it magnificently. Great choir, Great tune. Thanks Ralph! Opening Trio, Ali Orbaum, Sarah Pennington & Sam Burns

For mine eyes have seen: thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared: before the face of all people; To be a light to lighten the Gentiles: and to be the glory of thy people Israel. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen. The Book of Common Prayer, 1662 ORIGINAL TEXT Nunc dimittis servum tuum, Domine, secundum verbum tuum in pace: Quia viderunt oculi mei salutare tuum Quod parasti ante faciem omnium populorum: Lumen ad revelationem gentium, et gloriam plebis tuae Israel. Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto: Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in sæcula sæculorum. Amen.  less

Based on the 16th century poem by a major figure of the Counter-Reformation, St. John of the Cross, the piece depicts a soul leaving its “still house” and venturing into the night. Seemingly fearless, the soul is guided out of the darkness by the light of love; Luminous Night reveals the soul’s fulfillment.
