The Cwmbach Choir was formed in 1921, and has survived to The present day even though it was severely tested by periods of hardship, depression and The Second World War. During it's 90 years it has flourished and built up an enviable record of success...  more The Cwmbach Choir was formed in 1921, and has survived to The present day even though it was severely tested by periods of hardship, depression and The Second World War. During it's 90 years it has flourished and built up an enviable record of success in competitions and concert performances. Its success in competition,particularly eisteddfodau, was established in its early days. The first taste of success was second prize at Treorchy in 1928, followed by Cardiff in 1938 and Ebbw Vale in 1958. The first prize was ultimately achieved at Port Talbot in 1966 and repeated in 1968 at Barry. During The 1950's when The Although in recent times The Choir has not been nearly as active in The competitive arena, it was successful in taking First prize in The Male Choir competition at The Limerick Festival of 1996 in Ireland. In 1997, The Choir took part in The International Eisteddfod at Roodeporte, Johannesburg, South Africa where They competed in The Folk Music Competition. We preform choral music, ethnic music and modern songs emphasis on Slovenian authors. We preform a lot across Slovenia on solo tours or we prefrom on different cultural events. For four years in a row, we organize Festival oktetov Kranj (Festival of small vocal groups). We also preformed successfully abroad in Perast, Montenegro and Praga.

They brought to our school The rich traditions of classical music that prevailed in Europe, at The time. By and by , They were ably assisted by highly interested and committed lay trainers cum teachers who went on to train prize winning choirs that stood out among schools and also were in great demand for national events. The history of The Benedictine choirs would not be complete without reference to The great English musician Rev.Bro. Hugh Farrington , ably assisted by Bonnie Fonseka. We are based in Oxford and many of our younger singers have gone on to sing professionally in London. We sing a wide range of classical repertoire, from Gregorian Chant and Renaissance polyphony to contemporary works, many written by John Duggan. We have recorded two discs for The Gift of Music and give concerts in Oxford and London, as well as making regular trips to France and Italy.
