In 1968, the Choir was awarded the status of a National Choir. Over the years, the Choir has been led by many talented conductors, e.g. Centis Kriķis, Kārlis Beinerts, Edvīns and Inga Dziļums, Ints Teterovskis, etc. Today the conductors of the Choir are Evita Taranda and Zane Zilberte; Choir master is Roberts Hansons. The repertoire of the Choir varies, as performances include all sorts of music from the time of renaissance to modern music or music written by contemporary artists, e.g. Paul McCartney's oratorio "Ecce Cor Meum" or Czech composer Petr Eben's music "De Circuito Aeterno". The Choir has performed in many countries and it has received many awards and international recognition in international competitions. The title is a quote from book of revelations, and "See darkness..." is in its turn a series of other quotes that the first title refer to in various ways. It turns out that the references to me felt very contemporary and had to do with the current trends in society and that meant that I could both recompose something old, use new old texts that referred to an old piece of mine and construct a very contemporary and important piece that may both say something about our time and give hope for a better future. Since its founding, the Choir has had about 80 active members who enjoy the lively nature of Gosp...  moreThe Gospel Choir 'Rejoice' from Langenberg, Germany, was founded in 1996 by the organist and Choirmaster Roland Orthaus, who still conducts the Choir today. Since its founding, the Choir has had about 80 active members who enjoy the lively nature of Gospel music and who are inspired by the message of Gospels and Spirituals. The Choir sings this style of music in all its forms, ranging from simple three or four part all male/female vocal arrangements, to four part mixed arrangements. As well, they also perform more complex eight or ten part scores featuring solo parts which are sung by soloists from the Choir. Due to active co-operation with various youth organisations, this Choir consists of many different generations who all get on well with one and other. The Choir is accompanied by the 'Rejoice Band' which is comprised of piano, drums, an electric bass, and additional instruments when required.
