We encourage choral singing for all ages and abilities, including those who have never sung in choirs before as well as very experienced singers. We perform a wide range of music throughout the year and we're committed to contributing to the cultural life of our area. There is no need to audition, just to love singing! Their diverse repertoire ranges from Mozart and Rutt...  moreAmicantus Choir is a group of good friends and very talented musicians based in Stratford Upon Avon, Warwickshire under the leadership of one of the Midlands leading Musical Directors, Miss Maddy Evans. Their diverse repertoire ranges from Mozart and Rutter to Take That and Snow Patrol with a good dose of Musicals and Disney thrown in for good measure. The seeds of the Choir were first planted back in mid-2012 when Maddy was asked to set up a choir to perform a small concert at her local church near to Stratford Upon Avon. The choir are all good friends and met in a variety of ways from other choirs, bands and performing arts groups. Since their first concert, they have grown to become one of the best and most revered choirs in the Midlands and have performed at countless venues from the Birmingham German Christmas Markets to Shakespeare’s Birthday Celebrations in Stratford Upon Avon to their very first concert in Warwick in June 2013. The choristers looked at the formation of the choir as further development to their shared roots from singing with the Limburg Cathedral Boys Choir. They also looked to continue the tradition of successful male chamber choirs founded by former members of Limburg Cathedral Boys Choir, which is unique in Germany. The ensemble has committed itself to presenting the audience with unfamiliar male choir works of the highest level, but without neglecting the traditional canon of compositions, which makes for a exceptional combination. The repertoire includes a range of the following: Gregorian chants, works of old masters, romantic motets, contemporary compositions, arrangements of jazz and pop songs. These singers also perform as soloists. The group would like to promote their vast repertoire of singing ‘a cappella’ (without instruments) pieces from 16th to 21st century and their different styles. As well as being accompanied by orchestral ensembles, the choir often work with notable composers (Lucian Tuguy, Thibault Maillé, Jean-Christophe Marti…) who help to create the Musical pieces. Ranging from traditional concerts to original and artistic experiences, the choir is always seeking to give value to all of the creative initiatives. The group is one of Madagascar’s top choirs and aims for Musical excellence and artistic innovation. Various performances have been given since its debut in major places around the country. ICanto’s repertoire is eighty percent a capella and the choir interpretes all genres of Classical Music, from ancient to modern as well as rearranged traditional Malagasy music. The choir is conducted by Fitah Rasendrahasina.

We have a great Musical director, immensely skilled and fun to sing for. Every rehearsal gives us something to discover about the music of all kinds of different styles, how to sing, communication with the audience , keeping time, tuning, rhythm etc. The choir works with Musically trained people and singers entirely new to singing; some read music and some not. We give great concerts, sometimes of classics such as Elijah (Nov 2012), madrigals, anthems, and lighter music such as the delightful Noah and his Floating Zoo. Like all choirs however we need more singers to keep the choir progressing. We are therefore expanding the ways we reach out to people who might like to give singing a try, or who would like to return to singing after a break, perhaps to have a family or because of a house move.
