Artistic Director: Wallis Peterson, Accompanist: Gayle Giese. Today, this spring Is time for walking on the soft earth In sounds that sweeten the air And reach beyond the long dark sleep; For sun to warm the cheek, And quicken breath; A time to shed the griefs That brown the spirit of beginning; To trust the restless energy Demanding space and speak of life, My own, which recreates itself in you.  less

We aim to be a "A Choir of Note" in New Zealand. As Dunedin’s leading exponent of large-scale Choral works, the choir strives for the highest standards in performing the classics of the repertoire, such as Bach’s St Matthew Passion, and Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah, the Beethoven Ninth and Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius. In addition, the choir has performed major new compositions by New Zealand composers, such as Missa Pacifica by David Hamilton in 2006, and John Drummond’s The Journey Home in 2012. For its 125th anniversary the choir commissioned a new work from Malcolm (Jack) Speirs: Cantico del Sole, and for its 150th anniversary celebrations the choir commissioned a new work from Christopher Marshall: For What Can Be More Beautiful?. The Choir provides a forum for young, aspiring soloists and welcomes opportunities to perform with other choirs, such as the Inve...    less

Recorded live on December 14, 2014, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Performed by the Chamber Singers and Men's Auxiliary ensembles of the Girl Choir of South Florida. Artistic Director: Wallis Peterson, Accompanist: Gayle Giese. What sweeter music can we bring, Than a carol, for to sing The birth of this our heavenly King? Awake the voice! Awake the string! Dark and dull night, fly hence away, And give the honor to this day, That sees December turned to May. Why does the chilling Winter's morn Smile, like a field beset with corn? Or smell like a meadow newly shorn, Thus, on the sudden? Come and see The cause, why things thus fragrant be: 'Tis He is born, whose quick'ning birth Gives life and luster, public mirth, To heaven, and the under-earth. We see Him come, and know Him ours, Who, with His sunshine, and His showers, Turns all the patient ground to flowers. The darling of t...    less
