Our diverse vocal programme is for 14-18 year olds who Love to sing, are keen to develop their choral technique, improve their ensemble singing and explore a diverse range of vocal styles. It has been declared one of the state Songs of Louisiana as a result of its association with former state governor and country music singer Jimmie Davis who, along with one Charlie Mitchell, bought the "rights" to the song from Paul Rice (of the Rice Brothers Gang who first recorded it) for $35 in late 1939; Jimmie Davis published it, with "words and music by Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell". There are still people alive, however, who remember hearing the song long before 1937 and what these people remember is the name of the musician with whom Paul Rice played in the early 1930's: Oliver Hood of LaGrange, Georgia. Contrary claims notwithstanding, Oliver Hood wrote "You Are My Sunshine." He wrote the words to the song on the back of a brown paper sack, which his children still possess, and he first performed the song at a VFW convention in LaGrange in 1933; he sang it through a megaphone out of a hotel window, and he sang no less than twenty verses, most of which...    less

Goals are to create a place for men to hone and renew their Love of singing, and to provide a home in the choral community. There is an equal emphasis on musical excellence and camaraderie. Bandits ambush others on the road. They get wealth, but they stay in one place. Lovers keep moving, never the same, not for a second! What makes others grieve, they enjoy! When they look angry, don't believe their faces. It's spring lightning, a joke before the rain. They chew thorns thoughtfully along with pasture grass. Gazelle and lioness, having dinner. Love is invisible except here, in us. Sometimes I praise Love; sometimes Love praises me. Love, a little shell somewhere on the ocean floor, opens its mouth. The ensemble aims to promote artistic excellence in choral music ranging from classical to popular. It also aims to provide an opportunity for passionate singers to discover the voice as a singing instrument, develop high-level musical skills related to choral singing, influence choral music appreciation, develop cultural awareness, use choral music as a tool for change in building a better community, and finally, to represent Eastern Visayas in both local and international choral scenes. The Sinirangan believes that everyone can enjoy choral music and hopes to connect people of diverse backgrounds and ages to this extraordinary art form.
