The 1607 Ensemble
The 1607 Ensemble is a closely-knit vocal quartet that was selected as young artists at the Brighton Early Music FESTIVAL in 2007, and has gone on to perform in FESTIVALs throughout the UK and internationally in Utrecht and Capri. They have been featured ... moreThe 1607 Ensemble is a closely-knit vocal quartet that was selected as young artists at the Brighton Early Music FESTIVAL in 2007, and has gone on to perform in FESTIVALs throughout the UK and internationally in Utrecht and Capri. They have been featured on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ and ‘The Early Music Show.’ The members of the 1607 Ensemble hail from Britain, Canada, and the US, and their diverse musical backgrounds and affinity for a variety of musical styles are evident in their music. Equally at home singing Renaissance music and jazz, they also write their own compositions and arrangements, often combining old and new styles in music tailored to their unique vocal colours. One of the ensemble’s long-time interests has been the poetry of Clément Marot in 16th-century chanson. Much of the music we sing is arranged in the barbershop style. Along with entertaining our local audience KCC competes in the Mid Atlantic District of the Barbershop Harmony Society and is a consistent champion in our Division. KCC also promotes quartet singing as well as a cappella singing among the youth in our region.
Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings 7pm and are always open for visitors so feel free to visit to find out more and to see if our group is right for you. less

This setting for Christmas represents the cold of a Northern winter
(the cruel wind blows)
although of course the actual events took place in rather warmer climes.
It also reflects much of the liturgical and popular symbolism of the Christmas season: robins, holly etc and it brings our thoughts towards the season of Easter with the blood of Good Friday.
