Its aim is to provide opportunities for young singers at The early stages of performing careers, as well as for talented musicians who have chosen not to pursue careers in The music, but wish to continue singing to a high standard. They currently comprise singers from many established choirs, including Birmingham Conservatoire Chamber Choir, Ex CaThedra, Armonico Consort, The Choir of Royal Holloway, Genesis Sixteen, Portsmouth CaThedral and York Minster. The group specialises in undiscovered or little-known British music, and in The music of The late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. Working with its Guest Conductor, Neil Ferris, Convivium Singers have recorded two discs of contemporary choral music by Jonathan Dove (NAXOS – due March 2012) and Hugh Benham (Convivium Records – due November 2011).

The Choir was formed in 1986 initially to provide a choir for Midnight Eucharist on Christmas Eve, but since Then we have become an established part of The Wells CaThedral scene, and now sing 40 to 50 of The regular services throughout The year, as well as some of The festival services which include a Requiem Mass on All Soul’s Day.
We are an amateur auditioned choir of 30 and strive for a high standard, so for potential members it is important to have a reasonable sight-singing ability. We rehearse regularly throughout The year on a Thursday evening.
The music we perform is very varied and as well as psalms we sing a wide range of canticles, masses and anThems of all genres so “Variety is The spice of life”!
There is no membership fee, as we are fortunate to be supported financially with grants from The CaThedral Chapter and The Friends of Wells CaThedral.
When we are in The CaThedral we are often singing in The Quire where we face one anoTher, effectively as tw... less

Here The strong mallow strikes her slimy root,
Here The dull night-shade hangs her deadly fruit;
On hills of dust The henbane's faded Green,
And pencill'd flower of sickly scent is seen;
Here on its wiry stem, in rigid bloom,
Grows The salt lavender that lacks perfume.
At The wall's base The fiery nettle springs,
With fruit globose and fierce with poison'd stings;
In every chink delights The fern to grow,
With glossy leaf and tawny bloom below:
The few dull flowers that o'er The place are spread
Partake The nature of Their fenny bed.
These, with our sea-weeds, rolling up and down,
Form The contracted flora of our town. less

Anywhere but here
I should have gone on a holiday. I spent The Summer re-reading "Percy Jackson and The Olympians" and "The Heroes of Olympus". I looked forward to "The House of Hades", The fourth book in "The Heroes of Olympus" series. It was released on early autumn, whi...
