Founded in 2009, Gotham Rock Choir was formed to provide an outlet for singers of all levels and backgrounds to explore contemporary music in a supportive, fun, uplifting environment, to provide an alternative to the city’s many traditional choirs and to provide much-needed sense of “cool” to choral singing. Each week, a diverse group of New Yorkers from all walks of life–ranging from show business professionals to avid shower singers–gather at a professional rehearsal studio in Midtown Manhattan to belt out an eclectic mix of music in stunning 4-part harmony in preparation for a final concert held at an off-Broadway theatre. Romulo as President of the University of the Philippines. Through its 50 years of existence, the group has metamorphosed from being a simple university chorale into a musical force of national and world stature. Aside from its undeniable musical prowess and versatility in performing classical, Filipino folk, pop, and Broadway genres—all with ease, the Concert Chorus is also recognized as the pioneer of choreographed song for a choir. This innovation was started by the late Dean Reynaldo T. As the resident choral ensemble of the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, we perform a varied repertoire from classics to Broadway and rock to jazz in two main concerts, one during the Christmas season and one in the spring, with additional benefit and collaborative performances throughout the year. Scheduled auditions for new members are held in August and January of each year. The choir was founded in 2011 by friends who have spent their lives teaching others to perform, but whom rarely get the chance to sing anymore. We are directed by Jason Krigas and accompanied by Kathryn Polyack.
