Song meanings lost in translation
[this is a version of a post which first appeared on my blog From the Front of the Choir]
I have to admit that I’m not really a lyric person. I might have been listening to a particular pop Song in English for years when I suddenly realise...

sung by the dwsChorale - multitrack one-man choir
erstwhile alto at St Michael's Cornhill
When we Sang this, it was mentioned (during the rehearsal of course!)
that this anthem was particularly appropriate
since it mentions the new moon, and
the "New Moon" pub is just around the corner from Cornhill (on Gracechurch Street)...
So I thought: it's about time I brought the ideas together :-)

A message from the Director:
"Christmas 2020 is the first year in our 43-year history we have no live concerts, so we present this Virtual Concert of 6 carols.
I am proud of my musical colleagues for putting these videos together. I thank them for their loyalty to our fans and their fellow choir members, and for their diligence in preparing individual performances to such a demanding degree of musicianship.
We all share an understanding of how important it is right now to share the joy of Song with the world.
Joined by my wife Holly and all the members of the Stairwell Carollers, we wish you peace and joy this Christmas season. We will perform live for you once again soon.

the music was recorded live under the technical support of Faniry Andrianavalonome (RamoRecords) and Seta Ramaroson on January 2020.
Sing, Be, Live, See.
This dark stormy hour,
the wind, it stirs.
the scorched earth
Cries out in vain:
O war and power,
you blind and blur,
the torn heart
Cries out in pain.
But music and singing
Have been my refuge,
And music and singing
Shall be my light.
A light of Song
Shining Strong: Allelulia!
Through darkness, pain, and strife, I'll
Sing, Be, Live, See...
Peace. less

This version is based on that by the Golden Gate Quartet, the most successful of all of the African-American gospel music groups who Sang in the jubilee quartet style. Formed in 1934 the group remains active today, although with no original members.
This is from the OK Chorale's second public concert in March 2013 at St. Mary's Church, Woodbridge, Suffolk, UK. less
