Many members of the Choir are choral scholars, some are at music college, and most hope to make a career in music. Since its foundation by Ralph Allwood in 1984, the Choir have toured extensively in Europe, and have also appeared throughout the United Kingdom at venues great and small, including St John's, Smith Square and some of the country's most glorious Cathedrals.  less

The first of the three verses is sung in German, the second in Korean, the last in English - so each choir has to learn to pronounce the language of the other, an adventure! With simple, poetic words, "Song without borders" deals with the chance of children to create a future worth living for the adults of tomorrow through mobility, empathy and energy. The music to it illustrates in the first verse the sea as a metaphor of eternal movement, in the second the feeling together, in the third the positive action of holding together.  less

The choir has close links with the Gre...  moreThe (Dutch) Utrecht Byzantine Choir (Utrechts Byzantijns Koor, UBK) was founded in 1951. It sings both Slavic-Byzantine and Ukrainian folk music. The choir sings in the Ukrainian and old-church slavonic languages. The choir has close links with the Greek-catholics (in Ukraine). For decades, the choir strived to keep Ukrainian (liturgical and worldly) culture alive. It did so whilst the Greek-catholic Church fought to survive its suppressors. It continues to do so, joining in the happiness of the Greek-catholics' freedom today. The choir was founded by Ukrainian born and raised musicologist Myroslaw Antonowycz (+2006). At present, the Utrecht Byzantine Choir is directed by Grigori Sergei Sarolea. Grigori was born and raised in a Slavic-byzantine church community in The Hague. Our name reflects our roots in the telephony and technology sectors as we originally formed as a workplace choir in BT’s Edinburgh offices. We’ve since grown and attracted members from outside of our workplace. Led by Aly Skidmore, our vision from the outset was to build a dynamic performance choir for amateur singers. Under Aly’s musical direction, the choir has developed rapidly and grown significantly in both quality and reputation, receiving wide acclaim. The RingTones have been booked for a wide mix of charity, showcase and corporate events such as the Scottish Rugby Union’s Annual Awards 2015, Eden Festival 2015, the BT Scotland Annual General Meeting, the Scottish Parliament, Sports Relief, the Great Scot Awards 2014. The choir’s extensive repertoire covers all periods of vocal music and the 20th. century, among them choral works composed by R.R. Klein, A. Koerppen, F. Farcas and many others more. Some of the works have been specially composed for HARMONIE Lindenholzhausen. At the same time the choir dedicates itself to oratorioes usually performed together with the female choir “Dzintars” Riga / Latvia.
