It was established in Rome (Italy) with the aim of promoting and encouraging musical activities and the practice of choral singing. The Choir has taken part or organized more than 800 concerts, shows and musical events in churches and places of culture in Rome, Italy and abroad. It took part in choral competitions, celebrations, weddings and commemorations. The Choir sings mostly a cappella and its repertoire ranges from sacred and spiritual music to popular music and from 16th century polyphony to choral works by contemporary authors, focusing especially on Italian composers.  less

They are also the c...  moreThe Birralee Blokes are the winners of the 2012 International Kathaumixw "Choir of the World" award and also the winners of the Youth Section in the same competition, held in Canada in July. They are also the current ABC Classic FM Choir of the Year. In addition to this they were judged Youth Choir of the Year and also received the Listeners' Choice Award. In 2008 they were part of the Channel 7 Battle of the Choirs TV show, making it as far as the quarter finals, where they met their Waterloo with ABBA's song of the same name. Membership is drawn from state and independent secondary schools and universities and there is a strong emphasis placed on inclusion for any young man who enjoys singing and expresses a desire to develop as a musician. The Blokes released their second CD in March 2011. This was released on the ABC Classics label and the album "Towards Infinity" has received excellent reviews. In addition to this...    less

We are a mixed-voice Choir of around 30 singers, performing a wide variety of secular and sacred "classical"; choral music. We mainly sing a cappella, and tend to focus on lesser-known older works, and modern repertoire, often from living composers. However, this is by no means exclusive! The Choir sings three main concerts per year, with a charity carol concert just before Christmas. We are also a sociable bunch, with regular social events and a number of 'spin-off' groups.  less
