written for All Saints, Second Vespers, Antiphon to the Magnificat - cf. Revelation 7:9
O quam gloriosum est regnum,
in quo cum Christo gaudent omnes Sancti!
Amicti stolis albis,
sequuntur Agnum, quocumque ierit.
O, how glorious is the kingdom,
in which all the saints rejoice with Christ!
Arrayed in white robes,
they follow the Lamb, wherever He goes.

Its accompaniment owes much to the setting of Robert Herrick's 'Litany to the Holy Spirit' by Peter Hurford of some twenty years earlier. 'Ave Maria' has been extensively recorded and broadcast by Choirs of all traditions, especially children's Choirs. Eventually, a version of the piece for four-part Choir emerged during the early weeks of 2003 in response to a request from Gordon Stewart on behalf of the BBC Radio 4 Pilgrim Choir and it is this more recent version that is sung here.
This performance was recorded in Leeds Minster on Sunday 28th April 2013 during the recital of 'Music with Minster connections' sung by St Peter's Singers of Leeds, directed by the composer. the organist is David Houl... less

will ich klagen und heulen,
so wird er meine Stimme hören.
Er erlöset meine Seele von denen,
die an mich wollen, und schaffet mir Ruhe;
denn ihrer ist viel wider mich.
Gott wird hören und sie demütigen,
der allweg bleibet.
Sela Sela Sela.
In the evening, morning and midday
I shall lament and cry
So he will hear my voice
He releases my soul from those
who are against me
and gives me peace
for there are many of them against me
God will hear and will humble them
He who reigns forever.
Pause and think of this less
