As this piece was meant to represent the early beginnings of human civilization ...  moreAs part of the Vocal art Ensemble's May 2011 concert "Cloudburst--Sounds of Nature" is "Tres Cantos Nativos", a collection of three Krao Indian songs arranged by Marco Leite. As this piece was meant to represent the early beginnings of human civilization and the birth of language, we have staged the piece in a somewhat tribal way and added jungle sound effects.

The women shed their shawls and toss them into the center to represent the ingredients being dropped into the bubbling 'cauldron'.

The choir has with its conductor Jan Yngwe toured the better part of Europe, as well as Japan (1989), Cuba (1995), South Africa (1999) and Brazil (2004), in all some thirty international concert tours.

The choir, which has a membership of around 30 voices, was formed in 2007 by its Musical Director, Sheila Farmer. A cappella is a touring choir, having visited Prague and France, and hoping to make a tour to Spain in the near future. The choir rehearses every other Saturday morning, between 10 a.m. and noon.

This creates a "virtual" performance, since the piece is strung together from multiple acoustical venues from multiple days. The performance tour also included other modern works, such as Eric Whitacres "Sleep" and "Lux Aurumque", Frank Ticheli's "There Will Be Rest", and Dan Forrest's "Selah".

As the introduction states, Eric Whitacre's famous "Sleep" was originally composed to Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening", but when Whitacre realized the Frost estate was not releasing permission for musical settings of the poem, Charles Silvestri wrote the poem "Sleep" around the music Whitacre had written. To honor the inspiration the poem gave Mr. Whitacre, and to further honor all poets who inspire choral composers, we presented this beloved piece with the original Frost lyrics.  less

This piece was presented in the second half of the program, representing the changing seasons, which paralleled the changing moods and textures in the piece's three mini movements.
