The chorus is a musical p... moreThe Southwest Children’s chorus is a non-profit organization with auditioned singers in multiple choirs, each representing different levels of vocal ability. Members of the Southwest Children’s chorus range in age from 7 to 14. The chorus is a musical performance and education program for children and youth, emphasizing the development of musical skills and understanding. The mission of the organization is to provide quality music instruction with the goal of attaining the highest level of artistic excellence in choral music performance. Through its music activities, the choir helps to foster the personal and social growth of its members and promotes their sense of self-esteem, accomplishment and pride. The Tour Choir has performed across the world in over 35 states in addition to Austria, Canada, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Switzerland. In addition, the choir has performed in every major venue in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and across the state of Texas. less

We won our first Regional competition and are preparing to compete at International contest in October. We really enjoying competing and entertaining with our bi-annual shows and occasional singouts in and around the Detroit area. Come have fun singing with us at our Tuesday night rehearsals! Since 1994 it has been directed by popular chorus Director, Christopher Bell, and has expanded its membership to almost 300, with members aged from eight right up to eighteen. It has built up a considerable reputation singing under some of the world's most distinguished conductors and appearing on radio and television.

Currently in residence at the Church of St. Ignatius of Antioch on Manhattan's Upper West Side, the chorus performs an eclectic range of music, from a cappella compositions to works for chorus and orchestra, from countries around the world. Our diverse repertoire spans the 14th to the 21st centuries, including recent performances of the Brahms Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Bach's Magnificat and Christmas Oratorio, as well as new commissions by Kristin Kuster, Elliot Levine, and Jonathan David. Phillip Cheah joined the chorus as its Music Director in 2010.
