Stephen Hatfield on Hard Shoulder: Written to honour the House of Compassion, a Toronto outreach to street people, Hard Shoulder is narrated by the street people themselves. Although there is no explicit language, the reality of life on the streets is still presented in an unvarnished way that hits audiences where they didn't expect to be hit. the struggle of the homeless, and of the people who wish to help them, is presented without platitudes, without sentimentality, and without easy answers, but the final message of the piece is humanitarian with a capital H.  less

Among the group's twenty-four Members are piano and voice teachers, soloists, Choir directors, organists and others with musical training. the ensemble has previously reached the quarter- and semi-finals of the CBC Radio Competition for Amateur Choirs. In May 2010, they were awarded second place in the Chamber Choir category of the National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs. they have performed twice at Podium, Canada's national choral conference, most recently in May 2014 in Halifax.  less

Among our different programs there are "Misa Criolla" with an authentic South American band; "Le Bouquet de Swing", rich harmonies and jumpy rhythms, well known jazz standards and new arrangements to pop songs; "American Harmony", in which the Israel Chamber Orchestra joins the octet in an American themed program; and our new program, Sgt. Jazzva's repertoire c...  moreVocal group Jazzva from Slovenia was formed six years ago. the Members, who sing in some of the best Choirs in the country, decided they want more musical freedom and creativity, wilder beats and louder sound of their own voices. Jazzva's repertoire consists of many different genres, pop, rock, classical music, jazz, arrangements of folk songs and many more. As experienced Choir singers, they are used to singing with as well as without electronic amplification. they also try to incorporate some choreography to their own music, thus making it even more interesting and fun. At the moment, Jazzva is officially the best a-cappella group in Slovenia. In 2010, 2011 and 2012 Jazzva won at Sredi zvezd, the Slovenian national pop-jazz a-cappella competition three consecutive times. they also got a prize for the best vocal arrangement of the competition all three times (the last two years the arrangements were made by the group's artistic director Jasna Žitnik).
