The "Ladies of Melody Choir" was founded in the city of Tartus in November 2022 by Maestro Bishr Issa, a graduate of the Higher Institute of Music and a musician in the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra. He was also the former conductor of the "Chamber Choir of the High Institute of Music" in Damascus, and the conductor of the "Urjwan Choirs" in Tartous. The main goal of establishing the "Ladies of Melody Choir" was to highlight the role of Arab women in the cultural and musical scene, introduce the culture of choral and collective singing in its contemporary concept to the local artistic culture, and revive the authentic musical heritage of the Levant and the Arab world, which has begun to disappear and decline in the face of superficiality and degradation dominating the general Arab artistic scene. The group was set up to perform exciting vocal material at a variety of events, and to give men and women who love singing, the platform to get involved in a fun and sociable musical experience. The Voice Of The Town family has now grown and not only do we have our choirs in Newcastle and Birmingham, but we also have choirs in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The...  moreAnne Frank: A Living Voice was commissioned by the San Francisco Girls Chorus (SFGC) in celebration of its Silver Anniversary. The text is based upon excerpts from The Diary of Anne Frank, taken from the 1952 and 1991 English translations of the book. The full musical work was premiered in 2004 by the San Francisco Girls Chorus. Anne Frank was between the ages of 13 and 15 when she wrote her Diary, while living in a secret upstairs annex over a warehouse in Amsterdam with her family, the Van Pels family and Fritz Pfeffer. Despite the fears and frustrations she experienced in over two years of hiding from the Nazis, Anne learned how to survive, even to find beauty in small things and to hold on to her ideals. Composer Linda Tutas Haugen writes: "My goals for this composition are to honor the life of Anne Frank and to gain a deeper understanding of what she, her family, and friends experienced during the Holocaust." With styles ranging from pop to gospel, we're sure there's something to suit your taste. Come and join us on Tuesday evenings at the University of Chichester, where we rehearse. We aim to give two/three concerts a year – we hope you can be in the next one! We are a group of ladies with ages ranging from early 20s to 50s. We usually run around the school holidays as we have a few mums but can run in the holidays as well if enough people are available. We charge per half term which works out at £5.50 a week when you commit to the whole half term. Please contact us if you would like to come so we can let you know which room we will be in.  less
