The music was devised to short call order for a Mothers' Union Deanery Service in what was then Leeds Parish Church on Lady Day - the Feast of the Annunciation - in March 1979. Its accompaniment owes much to the setting of Robert Herrick's 'Litany to the Holy Spirit' by Peter Hurford of some twenty years earlier. 'Ave Maria' has been extensively recorded and broadcast by choirs of all traditions, especially children's choirs. Eventually, a version of the piece for four-part choir emerged during the early weeks of 2003 in response to a request from Gordon Stewart on behalf of the BBC Radio 4 Pilgrim Choir and it is this more recent version that is sung here. This performance was recorded in Leeds Minster on Sunday 28th April 2013 during the recital of 'Music with Minster connections' sung by St Peter's Singers of Leeds, directed by the composer. It was recorded on 5th December 2010 in the Harvey Nichols Espresso Bar in Leeds' magnificent Victoria Quarter in the first of St Peter's Singers' now-traditional Sunday evening carol performances there. The choir is directed by Dr Simon Lindley, its Music Director since the Singers' formation in June 1977. Its goal is to provide a quality opportunity for choral Singers to learn or improve their craft. The chorus sings a wide variety of music, including Classical, spiritual, folk, Broadway and old standards. The group presents two concerts each year – at Christmas, and in the Spring. It has performed with the Temecula Vintage Singers, and for the Temecula Arts in the Country festival, as well as many local appearances for deserving organizations. The chorus rehearses and performs in the Temecula area. The chorus is one of the Resident Companies performing at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater. We are located in Oslo an has a very broad repertoar from medieval to contemporary music. We sing in many languages and in many genres; Classical, church music, romantic songs, folk music, jazz; with our main focus in Classical music. We have been singing for 15 years and held concerts in several European capitals. Taking our singing seriously, we are a very social Singers who likes to perform with other choirs or musicians.  

The best young Singers Northwest Indiana has to offer. Performs exclusively in the summer months. Auditions and interviews typically held in May.
