We share our Love of singing by performing an entertaining selection of music from a variety of genres. Since our inception, we strive to engage all our audience members, from the musically sophisticated to first-timers. We enjoy bringing our performance art to the Calgary community. We perform at two major concerts per year as well as various community performances. As a distinctive and dynamic women’s vocal ensemble, we collaborate with local artists to perform unique arrangements of familiar and eclectic repertoire. Blend Vocal Association strives to unite in harmony and share our Love of singing by performing a diverse and entertaining selection of musical styles. We ensure our musically sophisticated and first-time audience members leave our multiple-layered performances feeling entertained, upbeat and inspired.  less

We are a friendly choir of all ages, who go on overseas tours every two to three years. We meet on Wednesday evenings from 7.15 to 9.30pm during term time.  

Modern Acapella, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Gospel - with or without band - whatever and whenever we sing, we rock the stage with passion and enthusiasm! We are currently around 50 ambitious amateur singers between 18 and 50 that share their Love for choir music. ...  moreModern Acapella, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Gospel - with or without band - whatever and whenever we sing, we rock the stage with passion and enthusiasm! We are currently around 50 ambitious amateur singers between 18 and 50 that share their Love for choir music. Our biggest success was winning the German National Choir Competition in 2010 in the category Jazz vocal et cetera - a capella.

The piece was written for the 50th anniversary of the Habaneras Contest in Torrevieja, Spain. The musical writing has nothing of a traditional habanera. The constant habanera rhythm is not present but must be felt as an internal rhythm. What I have included is the alternation of minor and major modes so typical of habaneras.
