The rehearsals include popular songs, music from the shows, and many more styles, and will help with learning to read music as well as learning to sing in new and different languages. We gather members from all areas of Hertfordshire so whether you are in Hitchin, Stevenage, Letchworth, Welwyn, Ware etc you are welcome to come along. We give you the pleasure of enjoying fine music and knowing you are a part of a musical Community - a team that enriches the life of all of us. We currently have about 50 members. We feature a variety of music from popular to classical. Our selections are fun and challenging for singers and entertaining and rewarding for audiences. Open rehearsals for potential new members are held in September and January at the beginning of the rehearsal seasons. No formal auditions are held, but we do expect new members to be experienced in four part choral singing, and to have some ability to read along with sheet music. An Open World, When I Land and And the Wind are three settings of poems from FletcherLaVallee Bartholomew's collection entitled "And the Wind: Gnostic Poems 1945 - 1979." Minneapolis native Fletcher Bartholomew spent most of his life in aviation, beginning with a childhood flight in a Curtis Robin in 1929. His work in aviation started with a job as an inspector in an aircraft factory. He went on to become a test pilot in World War II, serving at the South India Air Depot at Bangalore, India. He often spoke later of his experience on the ship to India and the people he met travelling around the subcontinent. He subsequently worked in aviation in Munich, Germany, and in Lima, Peru, before he concluded his career working in airport planning and management.  less

This project we did gave some of our members the studio experience while also challenging them in an area of music they were not used to! In this case, the areas we wanted to expose our members to were the ins and outs of recording in the studio, learning a technical piece using the written score and learning how to be aware of our presence while on video. We hope to provide more experiences like this to our members on NGGC. Enjoy!  less
